What's this RSS thing? How do I use it?
RSS (really simple syndication) allows Web sites to make their most recent content available to you automatically. A program called an RSS reader, or "aggregator," helps you to organize and view the various RSS feeds to which you choose to subscribe. Most feeds contain a headline, an abstract, and a link to each new item. The power of RSS lies in its ability to bring all of the news and content that interests you into one place. Rather than visiting 10 Web sites, you fire up your reader and quickly see what all of them have published. Then you click through to the articles that you want to read.
Get a reader: To take advantage of RSS feeds, you need an RSS reader/aggregator. Generally, these tools come in two forms: A program that you install on your computer (sometimes integrated into your email program), or a Web-based service. Both Yahoo!, with its My Yahoo! offering, and Google, with Google Reader, make it pretty easy to get started, and RSS is now integrated into the latest versions of both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
